Fundraiser held to pay funeral costs for local homicide victim Emmanuel ‘Manny’ Torres, 16
TOPEKA, Kan. – A GoFundMe campaign is being held to raise money to pay funeral costs for 16-year-old Emmanuel Ulysses “Manny” Torres, who was fatally shot last week in East Topeka.
Topeka police said they found the youth after being called about 7:22 p.m. April 15 to the area of S.E. 6th and Chandler. He was taken to a Topeka hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The family’s GoFundMe campaign as of Friday morning had raised $655 of its $6,500 fundraising goal, according to its GoFundMe page.
The fund was initiated by Trista M. Jasso, who told The Capital-Journal Thursday that her sister was the youth’s adopted mother.
The family was in the process of making funeral arrangements, Jasso said.
She said she was also accepting donations through her cash app, $TristaJasso, and that family members would be holding food sales. She said information about those sales would be posted on her Facebook page.
“The gun violence that has come to Topeka we feel has been rising and no arrests has been made from his death but we know someone was involved but feel nothing has been done,” Jasso said.
Topeka police asked anyone with information about the homicide to email [email protected] or call the police criminal investigation bureau at 785-368-9400 Anonymous tips may be made by calling Shawnee County Crime Stoppers at 785-234-0007 or going online to www.p3tips.com/128.
