TOPEKA, Kan. – The Shawnee County Drug Enforcement Task Force seized methamphetamine and guns and arrested a convicted felon while executing a search warrant Monday, said Sheriff Brian C. Hill.

Taken into custody was Chad D. Askins, 45, of Topeka, according to Shawnee County Jail records.

Task force members arrested Askins and searched a house in the 3500 block of S.W. Kerry Avenue, Hill said. Kerry runs north and south and is located about three blocks west of S.W. Topeka Boulevard.

Askins was booked at 3 p.m. Monday into the jail, where records showed he was being held on a $50,000 bond Tuesday in connection with one count each of felony drug distribution, the possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of stolen property and the criminal possession of a firearm by a felon.

Those involved with the investigation included the Rossville Police Department, the narcotics unit of the Topeka Police Department and the drug enforcement unit, SWAT Team and crime scene unit of the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office, Hill said.

The case remained under investigation, he said.
