Crews battle blaze from Topeka house fire

TOPEKA, Kan. – The Topeka Fire Department says just before 11 a.m. a porch fire was discovered at 2729 SE Wisconsin Ave. It said it was able to extinguish the fire, but not before one of two cats dwelling in the residence succumbed to injuries as a result of the fire. It said three residents were displaced because of the significantly damaging fire.

According to TFD, the investigation found that the fire was accidental and more than likely related to the improper disposal of smoking materials. It said the loss of the home is estimated at $103,500 with $78,500 associated with structural loss and $25,000 associated with content loss.

Working smoke detectors were found within the home.
