Topeka High’s girls held firm in their wire-to-wire spot at No. 1 in Class 6A. The Trojans, who have the state’s longest current winning streak at 39 consecutive wins, rallied for a 59-53 overtime win at No. 3 Washburn Rural last Friday to keep that streak alive.
Rural didn’t drop, holding strong at No. 3 in 6A. Both of the Junior Blues’ losses have come to Topeka High this season.
Topeka West is the lone ranked city boys team, remaining No. 7 in Class 5A. Washburn Rural’s boys fell out of the 6A rankings after a loss to Seaman last week.
Olpe’s girls are the highest-ranked area team, No. 1 in a Class 1A Division I poll loaded with area schools. Jackson Heights is No. 2, Frankfort No. 3, Burlingame No. 5, Lebo No. 7 and Doniphan West is No. 9.
Nemaha Central’s girls slipped from No. 2 to No. 4 in Class 3A after a loss to Sabetha last week ended their 39-game winning streak. Sabetha jumped up to No. 3, while Osage City is No. 6 and Royal Valley is No. 9 in 3A.
Clay Center’s girls are No. 2 in Class 4A behind Miege, while Wamego is No. 10. Valley Heights’ girls are No. 3 in 2A and three area teams are ranked in 1A Division II — Hanover at No. 5, Wetmore at No. 9 and Waverly at No. 10.
Hanover’s boys are the highest-ranked area boys team, coming in No. 2 in 1A Division II. Olpe is No. 3 in 1A Division I with Clifton-Clyde No. 4, Lebo No. 6, Madison No. 7 and Frankfort No. 10.
Lawrence is No. 3 in 6A boys followed by Free State at No. 4. Rock Creek is No. 4 in 3A with Royal Valley No. 8 and St. Marys No. 9. Tonganoxie is No. 7 in 4A with Wamego No. 10 and Valley Falls is No. 9 in 2A and Jefferson North is No. 10.
