The 15-year-old girl was with her brother and two friends at a Pennsylvania playground on August 17. The 15-year-old was shot in the head by two stray bullets and she died from her injuries the following evening. It had been just one week after her 15th birthday.

The 15-year-old teen, Simone-Monea Rogers, was playing basketball at Jerome Brown playground when someone opened fire near the group. Currently, no arrests have been made in relation to this fatal shooting. Deputy Police Commissioner Naish stated that detectives were still searching for ballistic evidence and processing surveillance footage from the area.

Police do not believe the kids were the target of the shooting. The surveillance video was reviewed and it showed at least 10 other people at the playground when the gunfire erupted. But when police arrived Rogers was the only one remaining on the playground. When police arrived in location, she was lying face down in the basketball court all by herself. The 15-year-old was taken to a hospital, where she was initially listed in extremely critical condition. But on the night of August 18, she was pronounced dead.

The police continue to review the surveillance hoping to catch a glimpse of the shooter and are still searching for ballistic evidence. Investigators are also trying to determine a motive behind the shooting that took place that has taken the life of the ninth-grader with a promising future.
