TOPEKA, Kan. – A grant could help renovations to the restroom renovation project at  Kossover Tennis Court move forward.

Shawnee Co. Commissioners Monday voted for Parks and Recreatio  to enter contract negotiations with Shirley Construction to take on the project.

The project is on hold until the parks and recreations learns if they win a grant from the Kansas Department of Wildlife Parks and T ourism (KDWPT)  to cover half the $272, 437 cost.

Parks and Rec is working to avoid conflict with the Topeka Tennis Association’s events.

“We’re well aware of the schedule we’ve been talking with TTA quite regularly,” Shawnee County Parks and Recreation Director, Tim Laurent said.

“Myself, personally, trying to move this along but is a significant amount of money we’re talking about a quarter of a million dollars on this project.”

KDWPT is expected to make a decision on the grant by the end of the month.

Commissioners’ approval comes with parks and rec to seek out other bids if Shirley and the department are unable to work out a project timeline.
