Shawnee Co. Commissioner Kevin Cook nominated to fill judge vacancy

TOPEKA, Kan. – A nominating commission has named four candidates to fill a vacancy in Shawnee County District Court, including a current Shawnee Co. Commissioner.

According to the 3rd Judicial District Nominating Commission, they’ve sent these names to Gov. Laura Kelly:

– Kevin J. Cook, Topeka, private practice, Cook Law Office, Topeka;

– Jessica G. Domme, Tecumseh, assistant attorney general, Kansas Attorney General’s office;

– Lori D. Dougherty-Bichsel, Silver Lake, administrative judge and department director, Topeka Municipal Court; and

– Todd M. Thornburg, Topeka, staff attorney and special assistant attorney general, Kansas Department of Labor.

Once the names are submitted to the Governor, she had 60 days to make an appointment.

The person selected will fill the position of Chief Judge Evelyn Wilson, who left her position to become a Supreme Court justice.
